Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases 2 (TIMP2) is an extracellular inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinases that helps regulate extracellular-matrix turnover and tissue remodelling. It is found in extracellular and cell-associated compartments and also has MMP-independent roles in processes including cell proliferation and signalling.
