Serum amyloid A1 (SAA1) is an acute-phase apolipoprotein whose expression rises during inflammatory responses. In mice, Saa1 acts in cholesterol metabolism and responses to bacterial challenge and is found in the extracellular space, with expression including the intestine, liver and placenta.
