MFGE8, also known as lactadherin or MFG-E8, is an extracellular phosphatidylserine-binding protein that helps link apoptotic cells to phagocytes and supports their recognition and engulfment. In mouse, Mfge8 is associated with the extracellular region and external side of the plasma membrane and contributes to apoptotic cell clearance and regulation of phagocytosis.
