Angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) is a zinc-dependent carboxypeptidase that contributes to regulation of the renin–angiotensin system, including conversion of angiotensin II to angiotensin-(1–7). In mouse tissues, ACE2 is associated with the brush border membrane and extracellular region, with prominent expression in the intestine and additional expression across several organ systems.
