Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), also known as Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2 (HUGO PTGS2), is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the PTGS2 gene. PTGS2 (prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2) is a gene that encodes an enzyme responsible for catalyzing the conversion of arachidonic acid into prostaglandins.
