Product description

Background

May play a role in lipid exchange and transport throughout the body. May participate in reverse cholesterol transport from peripheral cells to the liver.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Human APOL1 antibody. APOL1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human APOL1 Antibody is added and binds to APOL1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated APOL1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human APOL1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

APOL1apolipoprotein L1

View target guide

Apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1; ApoL-I/APO-L) is a secreted HDL-associated protein involved in lipid-transport biology and a pore-forming component of human serum trypanosome lytic factor. It is studied in lipoprotein transport and innate trypanolytic immunity.

Biological function: Reviewed UniProt describes APOL1 as a possible participant in lipid exchange, lipid transport and reverse cholesterol transport, and as a crucial component of human trypanosome lytic factor. APOL1 forms pores in Trypanosoma brucei lysosomal membranes, contributing to parasite lysis; plasma APOL1 associates with ApoA-I-containing HDL particles.
