Product description

Background

Ligand of the EGF receptor/EGFR. Autocrine growth factor as well as a mitogen for a broad range of target cells including astrocytes, Schwann cells and fibroblasts.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Human AREG antibody. AREG present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human AREG Antibody is added and binds to AREG in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated AREG antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human AREG. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

AREGamphiregulin

View target guide

Amphiregulin (AREG) is an epidermal growth factor family ligand produced as a membrane precursor and released as a soluble growth factor. This catalogue-backed ABMIUM record links human AREG (NCBI Gene 374; UniProt P15514) to research reagents for EGFR-ligand biology.

Biological function: Amphiregulin (AREG) binds and activates the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), triggering receptor-tyrosine-kinase signalling that supports epithelial-cell proliferation, survival and tissue growth. It functions in autocrine and paracrine signalling and is produced initially as a transmembrane precursor.
