Product description

Background

Can convert/oxidize retinaldehyde to retinoic acid. Binds free retinal and cellular retinol-binding protein-bound retinal (By similarity). May have a broader specificity and oxidize other aldehydes in vivo (PubMed: 19296407, PubMed: 26373694, PubMed: 25450233).

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Human ALDH1A1 antibody. ALDH1A1 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human ALDH1A1 Antibody is added and binds to ALDH1A1 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated ALDH1A1 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human ALDH1A1. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

ALDH1A1aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A1

View target guide

ALDH1A1 encodes aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member A1, the reviewed human protein aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1. This cytosolic NAD-dependent enzyme oxidizes a broad range of aldehydes and also converts retinaldehyde to retinoic acid, linking aldehyde metabolism with vitamin A/retinoid biology.

Biological function: ALDH1A1 catalyses the irreversible oxidation of aldehydes to their corresponding carboxylic acids. Reviewed UniProt supports a role downstream of retinol dehydrogenases in converting retinaldehyde to retinoic acid, the second oxidation step from retinol/vitamin A to retinoic acid.
