Product description

Background

Biglycan is a small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycan (SLRP) which is found in a variety of extracellular matrix tissues, including bone, cartilage and tendon. In humans, biglycan is encoded by the BGN gene which is located on the X chromosome.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat BGN antibody. BGN present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat BGN Antibody is added and binds to BGN in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated BGN antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat BGN. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

BGNbiglycan

View target guide

BGN (biglycan) is a small leucine-rich extracellular-matrix proteoglycan involved in collagen fibril assembly, connective-tissue organization and tissue-remodelling biology.

Biological function: Biglycan is an extracellular-matrix structural proteoglycan. Human NCBI evidence supports roles in collagen fibril assembly, bone growth, muscle development and regeneration, while reviewed UniProt supports involvement in collagen-fiber assembly and extracellular-matrix structure.
