Product description

Background

Nerve growth factor is important for the development and maintenance of the sympathetic and sensory nervous systems. Extracellular ligand for the NTRK1 and NGFR receptors, activates cellular signaling cascades to regulate neuronal proliferation, differentiation and survival (By similarity). The immature NGF precursor (proNGF) functions as ligand for the heterodimeric receptor formed by SORCS2 and NGFR, and activates cellular signaling cascades that lead to inactivation of RAC1 and/or RAC2, reorganization of the actin cytoskeleton and neuronal growth cone collapse. In contrast to mature NGF, the precursor form (proNGF) promotes neuronal apoptosis (in vitro) (By similarity). Inhibits metalloproteinase-dependent proteolysis of platelet glycoprotein VI (By similarity). Binds lysophosphatidylinositol and lysophosphatidylserine between the two chains of the homodimer. The lipid-bound form promotes histamine relase from mast cells, contrary to the lipid-free form (By similarity).

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat NGF antibody. NGF present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat NGF Antibody is added and binds to NGF in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated NGF antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat NGF. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

NGFnerve growth factor

View target guide

NGF identifies nerve growth factor in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 4803, UniProtKB P01138 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.

Biological function: NGF is a neurotrophin required for development and maintenance of sympathetic and sensory neurons. Mature NGF signals through NTRK1 and NGFR to regulate neuronal survival, differentiation and growth.
