Product description

Background

Lipocalin-2 (also known as Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin or NGAL) is an iron binding and iron trafficking protein. Lipocalin-2 is involved in multiple cellular processes including apoptosis, innate immunity and renal development. Mice deficient in Lipocalin-2 appear normal but have increased susceptibility to bacterial infection. The bacteriostatic function may be related to Lipocalin-2 limiting bacterial iron supply. Human Lipocalin-2 has 62% protein sequence identity to mouse Lipocalin-2.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Human LCN2 antibody. LCN2 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human LCN2 Antibody is added and binds to LCN2 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated LCN2 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human LCN2. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

LCN2lipocalin 2

View target guide

LCN2 identifies lipocalin 2 in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 3934, UniProtKB P80188 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.

Biological function: LCN2 (NGAL) is an iron-trafficking lipocalin involved in innate immunity and other cellular processes. It binds iron-associated siderophores and can alter cellular iron availability depending on context.
