Product description

Background

Retinol-binding protein that mediates retinol transport in blood plasma (PubMed: 5541771). Delivers retinol from the liver stores to the peripheral tissues (Probable). Transfers the bound all-trans retinol to STRA6, that then facilitates retinol transport across the cell membrane (PubMed: 22665496).

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Human RBP4 antibody. RBP4 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human RBP4 Antibody is added and binds to RBP4 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated RBP4 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human RBP4. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

RBP4retinol binding protein 4

View target guide

Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4), also written retinol-binding protein 4, is the principal circulating carrier of retinol (vitamin A). ABMIUM catalogue products linked below support research on RBP4 biology.

Biological function: Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4) is a secreted lipocalin that transports retinol from hepatic stores to peripheral tissues. In circulation, retinol-bound RBP4 can associate with transthyretin, which reduces renal filtration of the complex, while cellular uptake and retinoid delivery support vitamin A-dependent physiology.
