Product description

Background

May act as a physical homophilic interaction molecule between intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) and intraepithelial lymphocytes (IELs) at the mucosal epithelium for providing immunological barrier as a first line of defense against mucosal infection. Plays a role in embryonic stem cells proliferation and differentiation. Up-regulates the expression of FABP5, MYC and cyclins A and E (By similarity).

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat EPCAM antibody. EPCAM present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat EPCAM Antibody is added and binds to EPCAM in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated EPCAM antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat EPCAM. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

EPCAMepithelial cell adhesion molecule

View target guide

EPCAM identifies epithelial cell adhesion molecule in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 4072, UniProtKB P16422 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.

Biological function: EPCAM is an epithelial cell-surface protein implicated in epithelial barrier interactions and regulation of cell proliferation and differentiation, including roles described in intestinal epithelium and embryonic stem-cell contexts.
