Product description

Background

Cytokine with immunoregulatory activity. May promote the transition between innate and adaptive immunity. Induces the production of IgG(1) and IgG(3) in B-cells (By similarity). Implicated in the generation and maintenance of T follicular helper (Tfh) cells and the formation of germinal-centers. Together with IL6, control the early generation of Tfh cells and are critical for an effective antibody response to acute viral infection (By similarity). May play a role in proliferation and maturation of natural killer (NK) cells in synergy with IL15. May regulate proliferation of mature B- and T-cells in response to activating stimuli. In synergy with IL15 and IL18 stimulates interferon gamma production in T-cells and NK cells (PubMed: 11081504, PubMed: 15178704). During T-cell mediated immune response may inhibit dendritic cells (DC) activation and maturation (By similarity).

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Human IL21 antibody. IL21 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Human IL21 Antibody is added and binds to IL21 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IL21 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Human IL21. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

IL21interleukin 21

View target guide

IL21 identifies interleukin 21 in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 59067, UniProtKB Q9HBE4 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.

Biological function: IL21 is an immunoregulatory cytokine produced mainly by activated CD4-positive T-cell subsets and natural killer T cells. Through its receptor complex it influences proliferation, differentiation and effector functions across B cells, T cells, natural killer cells and other immune populations.
