ABMIUM target intelligence
apoptosis inducing factor mitochondria associated 1
AIFM1 is apoptosis inducing factor mitochondria associated 1, encoding the mitochondrial apoptosis-inducing factor 1 (AIF). It is a mitochondrial flavoprotein with oxidoreductase activity that can also participate in caspase-independent cell-death pathways after release from mitochondria.

Research context & evidence
Target information is kept separate from product-level validation so you can review the biology and the reagent evidence independently.
AIFM1 functions as a mitochondrial NADH oxidoreductase and contributes to mitochondrial physiology. Following defined cell-death stimuli, apoptosis-inducing factor 1 can be released from the mitochondrial intermembrane space and translocate toward the nucleus, where it contributes to caspase-independent chromatin condensation and DNA fragmentation.
AIFM1 is studied in mitochondrial biology, redox regulation and mechanisms of caspase-independent cell death, including parthanatos-related models. Its mitochondrial housekeeping functions should be distinguished from stress-induced redistribution during cell-death experiments. Reagent selection should consider subcellular localisation, species, sample type, assay format and product-level validation.
