Research target context

ALPIalkaline phosphatase, intestinal

View target guide

Alkaline phosphatase, intestinal (ALPI), commonly called intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP), is a brush-border phosphomonoesterase expressed in the intestine. It is studied for its digestive phosphatase activity and its contribution to gut mucosal defence, including dephosphorylation of microbial products such as lipopolysaccharide.

Biological function: Intestinal-type alkaline phosphatase (ALPI/IAP) hydrolyses phosphate monoesters and functions as a digestive brush-border enzyme. Authoritative records also support a role in gut mucosal defence, including detoxification of lipopolysaccharide and limitation of bacterial translocation.
