Product description

Background

Induces cartilage and bone formation. Acts in concert with PTHLH/PTHRP to stimulate ductal outgrowth during embryonic mammary development and to inhibit hair follicle induction.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Mouse BMP4 antibody. BMP4 present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Mouse BMP4 Antibody is added and binds to BMP4 in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated BMP4 antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Mouse BMP4. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

BMP4bone morphogenetic protein 4

View target guide

Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4/BMP-4) is a secreted TGF-beta superfamily growth factor involved in developmental signalling and tissue differentiation. ABMIUM catalogue products linked below support research on BMP4 biology.

Biological function: Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) is a TGF-beta superfamily growth factor with key roles in developmental patterning, differentiation, osteogenesis and vascular development. Canonical BMP4 signalling occurs through type I and type II BMP receptors and activates SMAD1/5/8-dependent transcription, while additional non-canonical pathways can also contribute.
