Product description

Background

Constitutes 1-2% of the total bone protein. It binds strongly to apatite and calcium.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Bovine OT antibody. OT present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Bovine OT Antibody is added and binds to OT in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated OT antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Bovine OT. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

BGLAPbone gamma-carboxyglutamate protein

View target guide

BGLAP encodes bone gamma-carboxyglutamate protein, better known as osteocalcin (OC/BGP), a vitamin K-dependent osteoblast-secreted protein of mineralized bone matrix.

Biological function: Osteocalcin undergoes vitamin K-dependent gamma-carboxylation, enabling binding to calcium and hydroxyapatite. The carboxylated protein is a major non-collagenous component of bone matrix and contributes to bone formation and remodelling biology.
