Biological function

BMPR2 is a type II receptor serine/threonine kinase that binds BMP-family ligands including BMP2 and BMP7. Upon ligand-dependent receptor-complex formation, BMPR2 phosphorylates and activates type I BMP receptors; activated type I receptors then engage SMAD transcriptional regulators.
