BDNF activates signalling through the neurotrophin receptor NTRK2 (TrkB). It supports survival and differentiation of selected neuronal populations, contributes to axonal growth and pathfinding, regulates dendritic growth and morphology, and is a major modulator of synaptic transmission and plasticity.
