Glycogen is a totally inert polysaccharide. It will not interfere with any subsequent reaction; therefore, normally it is not necessary to remove it from nucleic acid preparations. It is different from tRNA, yeast RNA, or sonicated DNA as a carrier, because it is less likely to interfere with downstream applications.
