BMP4 is a growth factor of the TGF-beta superfamily that plays essential roles in many developmental processes, including neurogenesis, vascular development, angiogenesis and osteogenesis. BMP4 acts in concert with PTHLH/PTHRP to stimulate ductal outgrowth during embryonic mammary development and to inhibit hair follicle induction. Initiates the canonical BMP signalling cascade by associating with type I receptor BMPR1A and type II receptor BMPR2.

Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4/BMP-4) is a secreted TGF-beta superfamily growth factor involved in developmental signalling and tissue differentiation. ABMIUM catalogue products linked below support research on BMP4 biology.
Biological function: Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) is a TGF-beta superfamily growth factor with key roles in developmental patterning, differentiation, osteogenesis and vascular development. Canonical BMP4 signalling occurs through type I and type II BMP receptors and activates SMAD1/5/8-dependent transcription, while additional non-canonical pathways can also contribute.
