La PTX3 (Pentraxine 3) est un membre de la super-famille des pentraxines. Cette super-famille est caractérisée par une structure multimérique cyclique. Le gène PTX3 est cartographié en 3q25.32. La protéine PTX3 prédite de 381 acides aminés présente une homologie avec la famille des protéines pentraxines. Des niveaux significatifs de PTX3 ont été détectés dans le plasma de patients neutropéniques atteints d'un A systémique. La PTX3 est efficace pour prévenir l'infection et la réactivation du CMV, ainsi que l'infection ultérieure par Aspergillus. La PTX3 active la voie classique d'activation du complément et facilite la reconnaissance des agents pathogènes par les macrophages et les DC.
