La Macrophage Inflammatory Protein 3 alpha (MIP3alpha), également appelée chimiokine, motif cc, ligand 20 (CCL20). Le gène MIP-3alpha/CCL20 a été cloné et séquencé, révélant une structure à quatre exons et trois introns, et a été localisé par analyse FISH en 2q35-q36. La MIP3alpha est principalement exprimée dans les ganglions lymphatiques, l'appendice, les PBL, le foie fœtal, le poumon fœtal et plusieurs lignées cellulaires. La MIP3alpha/CCL20 et son récepteur CCR6 sont fortement régulés à la hausse dans le psoriasis, et ils peuvent jouer un rôle dans le recrutement des lymphocytes T vers la peau lésionnelle psoriasique. L'Alanine MIP-3alpha et la Sérine MIP-3alpha sont les deux formes de MIP3alpha, qui diffèrent par un acide aminé au niveau du site de clivage du peptide signal prédit. Les deux ont été chimiquement synthétisées et testées pour leur activité biologique. Les antigènes grippaux plus les lymphoblastes T CD4 (+) et CD8 (+) activés par l'IL-2 et les cellules dendritiques dérivées du sang de cordon ont répondu à la Ser et à l'Ala MIP-3alpha.
