En raison de cette localisation, il s'agit d'un antigène cible primaire impliqué dans la démyélinisation à médiation immunitaire. Cette protéine pourrait être impliquée dans l'achèvement et le maintien de la gaine de myéline et dans la communication intercellulaire.
