La protéine codée par ce gène est un composant des complexes ARN polymérase I et ARN polymérase III, qui fonctionnent respectivement dans la synthèse des précurseurs d'ARN ribosomal et des petits ARN. Les mutations de ce gène sont une cause du syndrome de Treacher Collins (STC), un trouble du développement craniofacial. L'épissage alternatif entraîne de multiples variants de transcrits.
