La cycline B2 est un membre de la famille des cyclines, en particulier des cyclines de type B. Les cyclines de type B, B1 et B2, s'associent à p34cdc2 et sont des composants essentiels du mécanisme de régulation du cycle cellulaire. B1 et B2 diffèrent par leur localisation subcellulaire. La cycline B1 co-localise avec les microtubules, tandis que la cycline B2 est principalement associée à la région de Golgi.
