La protéine codée par ce gène appartient à la famille des récepteurs de cytokines. Il s'agit d'une chaîne accessoire essentielle pour le complexe de récepteurs actifs de l'interleukine 10. Il a été démontré que la coexpression de cette protéine et des protéines IL10RA est nécessaire pour la transduction du signal induite par l'IL10. Ce gène et trois autres gènes de récepteurs d'interféron, IFAR2, IFNAR1 et IFNGR2, forment un cluster de gènes de récepteurs de cytokines de classe II situé dans une petite région du chromosome 21.
