kératine 8 (KRT8) Homo sapiens Ce gène est un membre de la famille des kératines de type II regroupées sur le bras long du chromosome 12. Les kératines de type I et de type II s'hétéropolymérisent pour former des filaments intermédiaires dans le cytoplasme des cellules épithéliales. Le produit de ce gène dimérise généralement avec la kératine 18 pour former un filament intermédiaire dans les cellules épithéliales simples monocouches. Cette protéine joue un rôle dans le maintien de l'intégrité structurelle cellulaire et fonctionne également dans la transduction du signal et la différenciation cellulaire. Des mutations dans ce gène provoquent une cirrhose cryptogénique. Des variants de transcrits épissés alternativement ont été trouvés pour ce gène. [fourni par RefSeq, janvier 2012],
