La protéine codée par ce gène appartient à une famille de protéines sarcomériques qui se lient à la calcineurine, une phosphatase impliquée dans la transduction de signaux dépendants du calcium dans divers types de cellules. Ces membres de la famille lient la calcineurine à l'alpha-actinine au niveau de la strie Z du sarcomère des cellules musculaires cardiaques et squelettiques, et sont donc importants pour la signalisation de la calcineurine. Des mutations dans ce gène sont à l'origine de la cardiomyopathie familiale hypertrophique de type 16, une maladie cardiaque héréditaire. [fourni par RefSeq, août 2011].
