La protéine encodée par ce gène est un membre de la famille des protéines cyclines. La protéine encodée interagit avec la kinase 8 dépendante des cyclines et induit la phosphorylation du domaine carboxy-terminal de la grande sous-unité de l'ARN polymérase II. Le niveau des ARNm pour ce gène atteint un pic en phase G1 du cycle cellulaire. Deux variants de transcription encodant différentes isoformes ont été trouvés pour ce gène.
