La protéine encodée par ce gène se localise au niveau des adhérences focales, des régions de la membrane plasmatique où la cellule se fixe à la matrice extracellulaire. Cette protéine réticule les filaments d'actine et contient un domaine SH2 (Src homology 2), souvent trouvé dans les molécules impliquées dans la transduction du signal.
