L'interleukine 17A (IL17A) est une cytokine pro-inflammatoire sécrétée par les lymphocytes T activés. C'est un puissant inducteur de la maturation des précurseurs hématopoïétiques CD34-positifs en neutrophiles. La protéine transmembranaire codée par ce gène (récepteur de l'interleukine 17A ; IL17RA) est une glycoprotéine membranaire de type I ubiquitaire qui se lie avec une faible affinité à l'interleukine 17A. L'interleukine 17A et son récepteur jouent un rôle pathogène dans de nombreuses maladies inflammatoires et auto-immunes telles que la polyarthrite rhumatoïde. Comme d'autres récepteurs de cytokines, ce récepteur a probablement une structure multimérique. L'épissage alternatif entraîne de multiples variantes de transcrits codant pour différentes isoformes.
