L'interleukine 1 induit la synthèse de protéines de phase aiguë et pro-inflammatoires lors d'une infection, d'une lésion tissulaire ou d'un stress, en formant un complexe au niveau de la membrane cellulaire avec un récepteur d'interleukine 1 et une protéine accessoire. Ce gène code la protéine accessoire du récepteur d'interleukine 1. La protéine est un élément nécessaire du complexe du récepteur d'interleukine 1 qui initie des événements de signalisation entraînant l'activation des gènes répondant à l'interleukine 1. L'épissage alternatif de ce gène donne deux variants de transcription codant deux isoformes différentes, une liée à la membrane et une soluble. Le rapport des formes solubles aux formes liées à la membrane augmente lors de l'induction de la phase aiguë ou du stress. [fourni par RefSeq, nov. 2009],
