Ce gène code un membre de la famille des motifs tripartites (TRIM). Le motif TRIM comprend trois domaines de liaison au zinc, un RING, un B-box de type 1 et un B-box de type 2, et une région coiled-coil. Cette protéine se localise dans la matrice nucléaire. Elle interagit avec la protéine enhancer of polycomb et réprime la transcription génique. On pense également qu'elle est impliquée dans la différenciation des cellules germinales mâles. La fusion de l'extrémité N-terminale de cette protéine avec l'extrémité C-terminale tronquée du produit du gène RET a montré qu'elle entraînait la production de la protéine de transformation RET.
