Les facteurs de transcription hélice-boucle-hélice basique (bHLH) ont été impliqués dans la détermination et la différenciation des lignées cellulaires. La protéine encodée par ce gène est un facteur de transcription bHLH et partage des similitudes avec un autre facteur de transcription bHLH, Dermo1. L'expression la plus forte de cet ARNm se trouve dans le tissu placentaire ; chez l'adulte, les tissus d'origine mésodermique expriment préférentiellement cet ARNm. Des mutations de ce gène ont été trouvées chez des patients atteints du syndrome de Saethre-Chotzen. [fourni par RefSeq, juillet 2008].
