La protéine codée fonctionne dans la réponse immunitaire et peut être impliquée dans l'inflammation chronique en déclenchant la production de cytokines inflammatoires constitutives. Les défauts de ce gène sont une cause d'ostéodysplasie lipomembraneuse polykystique avec leucoencéphalopathie sclérosante (PLOSL).
