L'antigène KI-67 est une protéine nucléaire associée à la prolifération cellulaire et pouvant être nécessaire à celle-ci. De plus, il est associé à la transcription de l'ARN ribosomal. L'inactivation de l'antigène KI-67 entraîne l'inhibition de la synthèse de l'ARN ribosomal. La protéine Ki-67 (également connue sous le nom de MKI67) est un marqueur cellulaire de la prolifération. Elle est strictement associée à la prolifération cellulaire. Pendant l'interphase, l'antigène Ki-67 peut être exclusivement détecté dans le noyau cellulaire, tandis qu'en mitose, la majeure partie de la protéine est relocalisée à la surface des chromosomes. La protéine Ki-67 est présente pendant toutes les phases actives du cycle cellulaire (G1, S, G2 et mitose), mais est absente des cellules au repos (G0).
