Trois variants de transcription épissés alternativement de MEK3 codant pour des isoformes distinctes ont été rapportés. L'isoforme B utilise un codon d'initiation différent de l'isoforme C, ce qui entraîne la production d'un segment N-terminal de l'isoforme B qui est plus court et distinct de l'isoforme C. MEK3b est la forme prédominante de MEK3 et active fortement la kinase p38 MAP.
