Predicted to enable several functions, including DNA-binding transcription activator activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; cAMP response element binding protein binding activity; and protein heterodimerization activity. Predicted to be involved in intracellular signal transduction, lens fibre cell morphogenesis and regulation of transcription by RNA polymerase II. Predicted to be active in nucleus. Is expressed in several structures, including eye, hindbrain, liver, muscle and trunk. Orthologous to human ATF4.

Activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4), also known as CREB-2 and cyclic AMP-dependent transcription factor ATF-4, is a bZIP transcription factor central to the integrated stress response. Human ATF4 maps to NCBI Gene 468 and reviewed UniProtKB P18848; this record links the verified target to related ABMIUM catalogue products.
Biological function: ATF4 binds cAMP response elements and regulates metabolic and redox programmes while acting as a major transcriptional effector of the integrated stress response. Its translation rises during stresses including endoplasmic-reticulum stress, amino-acid starvation and oxidative stress, enabling adaptive stress-responsive gene expression.
