IL6 encodes interleukin 6, a pleiotropic cytokine involved in immune signalling and acute-phase biology. This target hub connects verified human identifiers and aliases with ABMIUM antibodies, ELISA kits, proteins and related assay products.
Biological function: IL6 is a pleiotropic cytokine involved in immunity, tissue regeneration and metabolism. It binds IL6R and recruits the signalling subunit IL6ST/gp130 to activate IL6 pathways. IL6 can signal through membrane-bound IL6R (classic signalling) or soluble IL6R (trans-signalling), and it is a potent inducer of the acute-phase response.
