Le substrat de la tyrosine kinase régulée par le facteur de croissance des hépatocytes est une enzyme qui, chez l'homme, est codée par le gène HGS. Il est cartographié sur le chromosome 17q25.3. La protéine codée par ce gène régule le tri endosomal et joue un rôle essentiel dans le recyclage et la dégradation des récepteurs membranaires. La protéine codée trie les protéines membranaires monoubiquitinylées dans le corps multivésiculaire, ciblant ces protéines pour la dégradation dépendante des lysosomes.
