L'aspartate aminotransférase mitochondriale est une enzyme qui, chez l'homme, est codée par le gène GOT2. La glutamique-oxaloacétique transaminase est une enzyme dépendante du phosphate de pyridoxal qui existe sous des formes mitochondriales cytoplasmiques et de la membrane interne, respectivement GOT1 et GOT2. La GOT joue un rôle dans le métabolisme des acides aminés et les cycles de l'urée et de l'acide tricarboxylique. Les deux enzymes sont homodimériques et présentent une étroite homologie. Deux variants de transcription codant pour des isoformes différentes ont été trouvés pour ce gène.
