L'élafine, également connue sous le nom d'inhibiteur de la peptidase 3 ou d'antileucoprotéase dérivée de la peau (SKALP), est une protéine qui, chez l'homme, est codée par le gène PI3. Ce gène code un inhibiteur spécifique de l'élastase qui fonctionne comme un peptide antimicrobien contre les bactéries Gram-positives et Gram-négatives, et les agents pathogènes fongiques. La protéine contient un domaine de type WAP à quatre ponts disulfures (WFDC), et est donc un membre de la famille de domaines WFDC. La plupart des gènes membres de WFDC sont localisés sur le chromosome 20q12-q13 en deux groupes : centromérique et télomérique. Et ce gène appartient au groupe centromérique. L'expression de ce gène est régulée par les lipopolysaccharides bactériens et les cytokines.
