Arginase 2 (ARG2; arginase II) is the mitochondrial type-II arginase that hydrolyses L-arginine to ornithine and urea. This catalogue-backed ABMIUM record links human ARG2 (NCBI Gene 384; UniProt P78540) to research reagents for arginine-metabolism studies.
Biological function: Arginase 2 (ARG2) catalyses the hydrolysis of L-arginine to L-ornithine and urea in mitochondria. By consuming arginine and generating ornithine, it connects mitochondrial arginine handling with nitrogen metabolism and pathways that influence nitric-oxide and polyamine availability.
