La glycoprotéine acide alpha-1 est une protéine qui, chez l'homme, est codée par le gène ORM1. Le gène structurel de l'orosomucoïde (ORM1) est attribué à l'extrémité du bras long du chromosome 9 par la démonstration d'un linkage avec ABO et AK1. Ce gène code une protéine plasmatique clé de la phase aiguë. En raison de son augmentation due à une inflammation aiguë, cette protéine est classée comme un réactif de phase aiguë.
