Actinin alpha 2 (ACTN2), encoding alpha-actinin-2, is a muscle-specific actin-binding protein enriched in skeletal and cardiac muscle. This record connects NCBI Gene 88, UniProtKB P35609 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.
Biological function: Alpha-actinin-2, encoded by ACTN2 (actinin alpha 2), is an actin-binding and cross-linking protein of the muscle cytoskeleton. In skeletal and cardiac muscle it localises to the Z-disc, where alpha-actinins help anchor myofibrillar actin filaments and organise the contractile apparatus.
