Product description

Background

IL-1β is a member of the interleukin 1 family of cytokines. This cytokine is produced by activated macrophages as a proprotein, which is proteolytically processed to its active form by caspase 1 (CASP1/ICE). This cytokine is an important mediator of the inflammatory response, and is involved in a variety of cellular activities, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. The induction of cyclooxygenase-2 (PTGS2/COX2) by this cytokine in the central nervous system (CNS) is found to contribute to inflammatory pain hypersensitivity. This gene and eight other interleukin 1 family genes form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 2.

Test principle

This kit is an Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The plate has been pre-coated with Rat IL1B antibody. IL1B present in the sample is added and binds to antibodies coated on the wells. And then biotinylated Rat IL1B Antibody is added and binds to IL1B in the sample. Then Streptavidin-HRP is added and binds to the Biotinylated IL1B antibody. After incubation unbound Streptavidin-HRP is washed away during a washing step. Substrate solution is then added and color develops in proportion to the amount of Rat IL1B. The reaction is terminated by addition of acidic stop solution and absorbance is measured at 450 nm.

Research target context

IL1Binterleukin 1 beta

View target guide

IL1B identifies interleukin 1 beta in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 3553, UniProtKB P01584 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.

Biological function: IL1B encodes interleukin-1 beta, a potent pro-inflammatory cytokine that promotes innate and adaptive immune responses including neutrophil activation, T- and B-cell activation and Th17 differentiation. Mature IL-1 beta can also be released during pyroptotic inflammation.
