catalyses the NADPH-dependent reduction of several pentoses, tetroses, trioses, alpha-dicarbonyl compounds and L-xylulose. DCXR can use both NAD and NADP as cosubstrate but shows higher activity with NADP. DCXR participates in the uronate cycle of glucose metabolism.
