Glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored cell surface glycoprotein that interacts via its N-terminal immunoglobulin domain with cell surface receptors including CD244/2B4 or CD2 to regulate immune cell function and activation. CD48 participates in T-cell signalling transduction by associating with CD2 and efficiently bringing the Src family protein kinase LCK and LAT to the TCR/CD3 complex. In turn, promotes LCK phosphorylation and subsequent activation.

CD48 identifies CD48 molecule in Homo sapiens (Human). This target record connects NCBI Gene 962, UniProtKB P09326 and related ABMIUM catalogue products.
Biological function: CD48 (SLAMF2) is a GPI-anchored immunoglobulin-superfamily cell-surface protein expressed on immune and other cell types and participates in immune-cell activation and differentiation pathways.
